How it works
Same group, every week
We run this as a six-week course rather than an open weekly class, and that is deliberate. Everyone starts on the same day at the same level, and you train with the same faces for the whole thing.
It means week two builds on week one instead of restarting for whoever is new, and it means you are not the only beginner in a room of regulars.
There is no grading, no sparring you have not agreed to, and nothing to buy. If you want to keep training afterwards our regular classes are there, and if you do not, that is completely fine.

Questions
Before you sign up
Do I need any experience to join the women's self-defence course?
No. The course is built for complete beginners and starts from zero. Most people who take it have never done a martial art and have no intention of taking one up afterwards. That is entirely fine.
How long is the women's self-defence programme?
Six weeks, one class a week. It runs as a closed cohort, so the same group trains together from the first week to the last.
What should I wear to a self-defence class?
Athletic clothes you can move in — leggings or shorts and a t-shirt with sleeves. Bring a water bottle. There is nothing to buy and no uniform.
Do I have to keep training after the six weeks?
No, and there is no sales pitch at the end. Some people carry on into our regular classes and some do not. The course is designed to stand on its own.
Who teaches the women's self-defence course?
The course is taught by the Wiley Jiu-Jitsu YYC instructors — black belts Pablo Garcia and Sebastian Lopez — at 622 Edmonton Trail N.E. in Calgary.
